LITTER CLEANUP
We are proud to host a community-wide litter cleanup event each spring in Yankton! The annual Great American Cleanup is a nation-wide effort by every Keep America Beautiful affiliate to pick up trash in their local areas during the spring months.

Saturday, April 26, 2025
Meet us at Memorial Park south picnic shelter at 9:00 am to get a route and supplies.
Fuel up with coffee and donuts as we get volunteers their routes.

Routes
View route descriptions and a visual map below. Please note that routes will be assigned by KYB board members. We ask that you get a route from us to avoid duplicating efforts.

Points of Contact
We will have two KYB board members picking up bags during the cleanup, one on the east side and one on the west side. Think Douglas Avenue as the dividing line. If you need more bags, want to let us know where you left a bag, or give us any information from your route, please call or text the point of contact based on your route location.

West Side - Al Koliner - 605-661-5908
East Side - Amy Bailey - 605-691-1021

How it Works
THIS IS A GREAT PLACE FOR YOUR TAGLINE.
Volunteers meet at Memorial Park South Picnic Shelter at 9:00 am the morning of the cleanup. Normally the event is held towards the end of April on a Saturday when the snow has melted but summer hasn't quite kicked off.

Volunteers receive their assigned route based on ability and preference, cloth or latex gloves, and trash bags. Routes are determined by KYB board of directors. If you have feedback on routes, please reach out!

After a short welcome from our board, volunteers head out via their own transportation to their assigned route. They collect trash and set full bags on the side of the road in a visible location.

Our board of directors cruise around and pick up the full trash bags. Volunteers are welcome to head home when their route is done (or when they've simply just had enough!) and the board disposes of the trash at the Yankton Transfer Station, paid for by City of Yankton.

Make plans to join us for this annual event!

GROUPS
Get the whole gang together to take a route as a group! If the Saturday morning time doesn't work for your group, we'll coordinate with you on a time one week before or after the cleanup day that does work well for your group.
ROUTES
If you know of a problem area that could use some attention, please reach out and let us know. If it's public land or we get approval from the land owner, we can consider adding it to our list of routes
SUPPLIES
We welcome donations of garbage bags, kids gloves, adult gloves and garbage pinchers to supply to our volunteers. If you'd like to contribute in this way, let's talk!
PREVENTION
Help keep Yankton looking good all year round by making sure the lids on your garbage bins are always closed. Clean up around your block when you go for a walk, throw your trash in appropriate garbages, and encourage others to do the same!
